Tokyo Ghoul is a dark fantasy manga by Sui Ishida which was serialized in Weekly Young Jump. It’s been a huge hit since then for its unique style and dark story with a list of adaptations including light novels, anime, and video games.
The series is centered around “Ghouls,” individuals who can only survive by eating human flesh. Being ghouls grants them special abilities like heightened senses or regeneration. The protagonist, Ken Kaneki, is turned into a half-ghoul after a surgery and dragged into this deadly world.
In Volume 2, Kaneki is torn about his new ghoul-plagued lifestyle, desperate to maintain his humanity but unable to survive without eating human flesh. In this darkness, though, he makes some new friends.
