An extremely rare race of immortal human beings, known as “Ajin,” treated as both criminals and experimental test subjects by governments around the world, live hidden from human society. The Ajin shouldn’t have been that relevant to the life of a regular high school boy like Kei Nagai, until he realizes that he is one himself after being fatally wounded in a traffic accident only to miraculously regenerate upon death. Frightened and confused, he escapes from human society with his friend Kaito and soon runs into more of his kind, some of whom are determined to exact their revenge. With conflict between humans and Ajin growing, will Kei decide to side with mankind, or with the Ajin?
In Vol. 5, Kei is captured by the authorities due to a plot by Sato, but he manages to escape and heads to a mountain village to hide. Meanwhile, Sato declares a full-on war with humanity, and in the wake of the terrorism spread by his pro-Ajin movement “Hat,” fear of Ajin begins spreading through the country.
